Harry Potter, Courage, Summer Solstice and 2012 – Spiritual Awakening anybody?

It’s no coincidence that there are seven Harry Potter books (chakras). It’s no coincidence that the series is a magical (metaphysical) wonderland. It’s no coincidence that Voldermort and Harry (you and YOU) are each a part of the other. …that Harry is guided by a litany of great teachers, sages, and advisers. …that Harry has to learn about and train to master the magical arts. …that Harry Potter is mega-popular series of books and films. Of course it is.

The reason is because, at its’ heart, Harry Potter is about YOU. The true you waiting to be discovered, recognized, and realized. Harry Potter is about your grand return adventure home. The home where all the separate, unloved, unseen, neglected and lost parts of YOU come together and celebrate their return, rejoice in their integration, and laugh at the whole cosmic joke process.

On the surface there’s really nothing to Harry Potter. As an adult, with a long term invested interest in spirituality, when I read the books , I thought they were charming. I stopped reading maybe after book three. I read the last book which is a two parter. The movies- I can do without. Totally predictable, stiff , contrived…

I imagine the internet is littered with all sorts of blog posts, essays, and articles theorizing about the deeper meaning of Harry Potter.

But, there’s really just one lesson to be gained from Harry- It’s this: In the beginning you are separate, lost and unhappy. You go to school. You learn how to overcome separation and unhappiness. You gain courage, strength, and power. And in the end, you return to wholeness and happiness. Unhappy to happy. That’s it.

Courage. Harry got courage. Time and again we see this trait in him. This too is no coincidence… It’s an archetypal trait required for all spiritual seekers. I don’t care where you are on the path, courage is always the magical trick you need to progress further along it. Harry represents this aspect of the heart- the heart’s capacity for summoning courage. You are going to need to do this, time and time again. Shit, I just had to play the courage card myself, and I’m awake. Let me explain…

Summer Solstice 2012: Holy Universal Energy Batman. I won’t go totally into my personal account of this solstice, but it has been a roller coaster ride. In both of my books (21 Days and The PIE Handbook) I refer to awakening and all it’s ordinary/extraordinary side effects as as magic something. This summer solstice has introduced a universal energy which has amped up the level of magic something in my own nervous system, to such an extent that I needed to seek outside assistance. Courage. I called upon courage to do this; to guide, to research, to prepare, to act. Here’s what I did: In the last two weeks I’ve interacted with about five different professionals who specialize and offer a wide range of services for this type of need: massage, chiropractic, reiki, intuitive counselling, and somato-emotional body healing. With each I had about an hour long session or talk, sometimes both. Much needed. Much gained. A lot of integration, healing, and strengthening.

The reason I mention this to you here is for two purposes- One: to hammer home the idea that courage really is the most powerful tool in your awakening return path arsenal. And Two: to demonstrate, reveal, and openly confess to you (the you with exaggerated egoic ideas about enlightenment / awakening) that awakening, by no means makes you perfect, impervious, or without faults. Yes, awakening introduces a tremendous amount of integration, healing, and wholeness. But it by no means makes you perfect. My nervous system is not perfect. I am still working with blocked energies, unseen past emotional issues, and hidden karmic soup. ( I will say this- dealing with this stuff- in the awakened state, is a hell of a lot easier.)

So- courage anywhere along the path is a good thing. And so this is why Mr. Harry Potter demonstrates this ability in every book, in every film. Harry is saying to you: WAKE UP! First- realize the circumstance you are in. Second- go to school. Third- listen to your teachers. Fourth- gather courage. Fifth- fight those demons. Sixth- save the day. Seventh- return to your true home.

Harry Potter is cool with me. If society as a whole has embraced his ethos, then damn man, we’re all doing okay- Not great, but okay- When society as a whole embraces enlightenment/awakening the way it has Mr. Potter, then okay, we’re headed into something truly great….
